Introducing Aji Ndumbeh Jobe: Emerging Voices from The Gambia

This week on The Voice of The Pen, we are introducing one of the most prolific emerging female voices from the Gambia.

Aji Jobe, alias Aji Ndumbeh Jobe, or IG Jobe is a poet, spoken word artist and writer, born in Banjul on 15 December 1998, grew up in Bakoteh, the Gambia and currently resides in Lamin village.

She is a co-author of The Voice of The Pen, a literary blog for fans of Gambian and African literature. She's passionate about feminism and the study of Africa’s formal contributions to the advancement of women's participation in decision making and literature.

She is the  current vice president of the Gambia College Students' Union, a member of Literary Club Gambia, and also the newly elected  Assistant PRO of the Young Writers' Association of The Gambia (YWAG). She is notable as a poet and satirist with right-wing libertarian tendencies.

Aji is working on launching her first spoken word album, titled “The Eye of The Pen” which is due to be launched in September, 2019.

Ndumbeh has always been one of the funniest, smartest, gutsiest poets in the Gambia, but her poems set a new standard. They're a spectacular explosion of comic daring, cultural provocation, brilliant, hilarious poetry, and genuine heart. Her weirdly poignant originality knocks the stuffing out of right-thinking solemnies and she delivers droll wisdom besides which the most elevated rants.
